Bush adventure therapy

At Yellowbird Wellbeing we provide wilderness minds 8 week group program opportunities aimed at increasing social participation, independent living skills and independence in a fun, safe and adventurous way. We provide wilderness minds that give participants a sense of accomplishment through achievements - fostering resilience, a greater understanding of self, and skills to cope with the challenges of everyday life. Activities are underpinned by bush adventure therapy principles, with activities building teamwork skills and active communication to achieve goals, as well as having the expectations to take on more responsibility.

Bush Adventure Therapy is a holistic approach to human health and wellbeing. Undertaking adventure in a natural environment within a safe small group offers a unique therapeutic milieu. When such experiences are personally chosen and individually tailored, the therapeutic potential is magnified. We’ve also found that natural environments offer a unique setting for intentional conversations and the gaining of helpful insights.  Our common aim across these mediums is to invite participants to reflect, act and relate in new, preferred ways. People from all walks of life find Bush Adventure Therapy seriously good! Wilderness Minds has been created based on published research targeting young adults & adults living with disability.

We provide Wilderness Minds at Green Acres in Stroud, set in picturesque surroundings. Wilderness minds is a group program, fun and are designed to allow participants to explore, make achievements and grow. Green Acres is located on the fringes of the Stroud Village, only 1.7km from the centre of town, its within 1 hour drive to the vineyards, to the beach, to the Barringtons and to Newcastle...and many state forests to explore close by.

We design programs to build people’s skills and confidence over time, therefore you can attend as many modules/weeks as you would like. Wilderness Minds vary in intensity, and challenges participants in areas of their lives that are ready to be stretched. Sequential in nature, BAT activities and other capacity building activities may involve participants developing an outdoor skill, such as canoeing or bush walking, but the activities are not an end in themselves. They are used as a medium within which participants learn a range of other skills useful for life, such as personal confidence, motivation, social skills, physical fitness, recreational competence or interest in a vocational pursuit.

Some activities include:  [depending on time of year & participant choices] and various themes topics for recovery/wellbeing & daily living are included.
